IceHawks Post-Game Wrap-up

Final-ICE-HAWK_headIceHawks assistant men’s soccer coach Kyle Bakas reports from the field:

“Saturday September 12th saw the Icehawks take on a top 20 team for the second time this season, as they squared off against Dakota County Technical College. This game was a testament to the improvement the Icehawks have made in just a few weeks. The opening 30 minutes were dominated by the underdog Icehawks with Tanner Nowak and Paul Kisuda combining frequently in the attacking third to create four excellent scoring chances, with two shots coming back off the post. The score was 0-0 at halftime. It was the Icehawks who had controlled the game with stifling defense and five chances generated to the DCTC’s two.

The second half saw fatigue and a very small bench eat away at the Icehawks. As the Icehawks sat deeper defensively, DCTC was given more and more opportunity to attack. The deadlock was broken in the 75th minute and DCTC would knock in two more to win 3-0. Though the final score was not indicative of the type of game that had been played, the Icehawks coaching staff saw plenty of positives in this game. Head Coach Jeff Lightfoot noted that it was a thoroughly impressive performance against one of the best teams in the country and that he was very proud of the progress which his team had already made.

The Icehawks square off this Wednesday, Sept. 16 in what is sure to be an exciting exhibition game against the College of St. Scholastica College at Public School Stadium with kickoff  at 6:30 p.m.

Go Icehawks!”
